13 of the Gnarliest Camera/Video Drones on Amazon

Disclosure: Men’sPleasures may get a share of the revenue from Amazon partners included in this article.

Counting down as of August 13th 2015, here are currently 13 of the worlds badass looking drones that are on sale to the public on Amazon.com.

Unfortunately the item’s product descriptions on Amazon are lacking a lot of the important info like battery life, maximum height and distance it can be flown, speed it can reach and weight it can carry, so this is listed where it can but please feel free to comment below should you have first hand knowledge.

13. Aeronavics SkyJib-8 Ti-QR Professional – $36’500

Amazon Customer reviews: 3.0/5.0

15 Aeronavics SkyJib-8 Ti-QR Professional DroneAs one reviewer wrote, you could in fact buy an actual real life helicopter as opposed to the Aeronavics SkyJib-8, but hell this gnarly looking flying machine which resembles a giant black spider flying at you with 15 mounted propellers looks a nasty, mean mother.

Argued to be the ultimate in drones for securing all manner of camera equipment this will be a popular edition to any freelance reporter or cameraman although given the size of ground station unit which allows you to view on board video streams, drone maintenance, GPS waypoint flying etc, it may be quite cumbersome to muster.

8. DJI T600 Inspire 1 Quadcopter with 4k Video Camera with Dual Controllers – $2’849

Amazon Customer reviews: 4.2/5.0

DJI T600 Inspire 1 flying in snowAbout $1’500 cheaper than the DJI Inspire 1 above the DJI T600 Inspire has garnered serious attention and sales on Amazon and is arguably worth reviewing in a little more detail.

Reviews are mixed – see bottom of product page – some can’t rave about it enough whilst a few speak of breaking a part worth a few dollars but due to lack of support from the manufacturers they’re unable to get a $3000 piece of kit back off the ground.

Comes occasionally with a free 32 gb micro sd card and is said to be solid and well engineered – unlike the Phantom 1 – and will withstand 20mph gusts of wind, it is also said to film “gorgeous” video footage and you won’t need to operate the second controller (which another person can use to solely operate the camera) as your integrated smart phone or ipad/tablet should control these settings.

This drone has been heavily reviewed on Amazon so best go there for full disclosure.

Said to handle ok in 15mp winds, simple to fly and is pretty stable although said to be iffy using wifi – RC better choice can record and share video direct from the AR.

Amazon Customer reviews: 4.4/5.0

5 DJI Phantom 3 Professional Quadcopter Drone with 4K UHD Video CameraThe DJI Phantom 3 does look the part and with 71% 5 stars Amazon rating that bodes more promisingly than discussed models above although customer service does get a slating as it appears the cable and gimbal break easily with little help on offer.

It does give you the ability to set height and distance but doesn’t specify what these are exactly, although one reviewer mentions 250ft in height.

Phantom 3’s with lower HD are available at smaller costs.

2. Parrot AR.Drone Quadricopter for Apple user’s also – $349

Amazon Customer reviews: 3.4/5.0

3 Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 EliteFinally a drone suitable for Apple devices – iPod touch, iPhone, iPad, plus Android.

With interchangeable hulls for inside the house and outside with a front view camera with live video feed, it makes an average 3.6 stars from 5 in the review section.

One rated reviewer describes it as very very tough when testing it out indoors, who advises to NOT take off the altitude limiter until you’re ready or you’ll fly it too high and potentially break the $1.5k piece of kit.

It’s supposedly designed to fly just 4 to 8ft off the ground, and requires some practice to master although if you view the promotional vid below it seems quite adept at higher altitudes.

This is an expensive Radio-Controlled Quadracopter – it’s not a toy as one user remarks so worth your time and care to build your knowledge up if starting off fresh, thus saving you from short-lived fun.

1. Yuneec Q500 Quadcopter – $1’249

Amazon Customer reviews: 4.7/5.0

1 Yuneec q500 typhoom quadopterAveraging 4.7 stars from 5 on the customer reviews chart from 65 buyers, the Yuneec Q500 Quadcopter is argued to be the quadcopter to to buy.

None are perfect but this is said to come very close: the quad comes with a “follow me mode” in smart mode that allows you to avoid getting hit by the quad, but if you take off in smart mode and are standing in its “safe zone”, then it might veer off into a tree or building.

That said, it’s described as easy to fly, predictable in its handling, takes great pics and vids either straight ahead or at lower down angles and if you aim it at light green colors into the sun it takes on an hazy gold color.

If you use the steady grip you will need an iPad or iPhone with Wi Fi with the 5.8 ghz range.

Customer support is said to be very helpful and easy to get hold of and a word of warning when the juice is getting low – bring it in when the voltage meter (upper right corner on controller’s screen) records 11.0 or lower.

This quadcopter comes with its own base station and doesn’t rely on a smart device interface to view it in real time while its up in the air – it’s a complete Ready-To-Fly System.
