How to Make a Homemade Strap-on Harness – 7 Methods

Updated:

The great thing about making your very own homemade strap-on harness is that some constructions will hold not only dildo’s, but vibrators, Fleshlights and even some of the best BJ machines, which changes the playing field.

There are four types of strap-on harnesses you can make for your toy to slot into, that you can wear, attach to a homemade sex doll or rig to something:

  1. Jock-style
  2. G-string
  3. Underwear
  4. All-in-one body harness.

We won’t be attempting build a body harness, but the other three styles each play a part in the design of these homemade harnesses below.

If you are using penis packers, then you should use silicone ones if they are brushing up against your skin.

How to Make a Homemade Strap-on Harness – 7 Methods

Method 1 – 2 scarves

The simplest way to make your own strap-on harness for your dildo is a straight forward method using two neck scarves or simply long strips of material that will take a bit of wear and tear. You can view this method on YT.

What you’ll need

  • 2 scarves
  • a dildo

How to make a DIY strap-on harness using 2 scarves

  1. Tie a loop in the middle of the first scarf, and pop your dildo through. This first scarf will be tied around your waist in due course.
  2. Before doing that though, take your second scarf and thread that through the loop which you have just secured around the dildo.
  3. Now tighten the first loop up, and tie it around your waist using a bow at the back, which will make it easier to remove. If someone can lend a hand that will help.
  4. Both ends of the second scarf which was previously threaded through the loop which grips the dildo – are the leg straps, so pull these back under your crotch and tie them into your first scarf which is now secured around your waist..
  5.  Not the most rigid of strap-on’s but free and effective to an extent.

Method 2 – Rope

This second homemade strap-on method uses good old rope you might find down the garden shed. For YT instructions, see this vid.

What you’ll need

  • Minimum of 6 times your hip measurement in rope
  • Sex toy with base

How to make a homemade strap-on harness using just rope

  1. You need to create a “centre point” from the start. Where the centre of your rope is, create a loop.
  2. Bend the centre point over and pull-out your schlong lasso. A hoop if you will.
  3. Next, you’re going to take that penis lasso and slip in your dildo or vibrator. Ideally either will have a base which the lasso can be fastened too, but loosely, not tight for now.
  4. Now place your dildo in a lasso on your desired position, and bring the doubled-up rope back around the waist to create a belt.
  5. You will then need to feed the free end of the two bits of rope, back through the dick lasso. Be very careful not to chafe yourself here.
  6. Now the belt part is done, take the free rope back out around the left thigh and under the buttock and then slide it under the crotch, and feed it through the harness or lasso at 6 o’clock so to speak. It has now been fed through twice, so you can see where this is going
  7. Feed that surplus rope back up through the penis lasso, from its base out, and it’s then time to go round the right thigh and under your butt cheek.
  8. Instead of going through the lasso a third time, create a loop and slide this loop behind the newly formed leg line, and the belt line.
  9. Create an arch, and pull the rope back up through the loop, going over the belt line and in through the loop, and hey presto – you have a strap-on rope harness!
  10. You can work on variations of this technique, securing one to your chest for double trouble.

Method 3 – O-ring + briefs

This third DIY strap-on invention was created by Bitchmedia which is no longer, but their fantastic illustrations have survived and you can read their complete pictograph here.

Some penis packer swim trunks might be a good fit for this design.

What you’ll need

  • Tight fitting undies
  • Scissors
  • Rubber ring
  • Sewing pins
  • Needle & thread
  • Soft fabric optional

How to make a strap-on harness using briefs/tight pants

  1. Cut an X where where the O-ring will go, but make sure it’s slightly smaller.
  2. Turn undies inside out, place the ring over the X and stretch the fabric flaps back out through the ring, so they should completely cover the ring.
  3. Using the sewing pins to pin down the flaps, slowly sew the ring in tightly using small stitches.
  4. You can sew extra loops in to strengthen the hoop.
  5. If you don’t like the base of your loop flush against your skin, you can sew in an extra piece of fabric to create a barrier, which will remove any rubbing.

Method 4 – Old boxers/sports bra + O-ring

Not dissimilar to a head torch strap, to make this homemade strap-on harness, you’ll first need the elastic waist from an old pair of boxers or the strap from a sports bra.

A monkey strap or large elastic band could step in as a substitute but not for comfort.

What you’ll need

  • Spare pair of boxers/sports bra
  • O-ring
  • Sewing needle
  • Cotton thread
  • Scissors
  • 2 strips of fabric

How to make a DIY strap-on harness using elastic strapping & an O-ring

  1. Cut the elastic waist away from an old pair of boxers below where it joins the pant, this way you avoid damaging it, and then slice the loop so it opens out.
If you can take apart a sports bra, then cut outside the seams for the same reason.
Text it to see it sits tight around your waist or chest or wherever you choose to wear it.
  2. You’ll then need to sew a strip of fabric to each end of the elastic strap, and feed that strip through the O-ring, and then sew it back down on the other side of your elastic strap or band if you like.
  3. Your dildo, packer or wireless rabbit vibrator will need a base of some sort or a holder so the O-ring can slot over the top of it and press down on its lower part. It’s no use if it slides all the way through.

Method 5 – Multiple straps dildo harness

A play on the last design, this method allows for a looser fitting and may soften body dysphoria when you take a shower.

What you’ll need

  • Bra/boxer elastic strap
  • O-ring
  • Short strip of fabric
  • 2 long thin elastic bands
  • Spare fabric to lock scrotum sack in (optional)

How to make a multiple strapped DIY dildo harness

  1. Like in method 4 above, grab yourself an elastic strap removed from a pair of boxers or sports bra. You can keep the loop of the boxers in one piece. For the sports bra, you’ll need to sew each end together.
  2. With the short strip of fabric, place it through the O-ring and under the waist strap you’ve just created and sew the two ends together, so the loop hangs vertically over your desired region.
  3. With the 2 long thin elastic bands, they’ll need to be delicately sewn around the O-ring, in position like a CND sign.
  4.  These elastic strips then thread back under your groin and can be secured around your elastic waist band at the back.
  5. To secure the ball sack on your packer, you can sew in a strip 4cm below the O-ring, stretching 5cm across.

Method 6 – Leather DIY strap-on

Conceived from this thread here, this sixth method gets a bit technical and requires a toolset of sorts.

What you’ll need

  • Pencil and A4 paper
  • 3 O-rings
  • Soft buffalo leather
  • Stanley knife
  • Leather glue

How to make a leather DIY strap-on

  1. On a piece of A4 paper, place your O-ring on it and draw a design of a jock-strap around it – to your dimensions.
  2. When you have your ideal shape to the left or right of the O-ring, fold the paper over, cut it out, trace that shape over the buffalo leather, then cut it out
  3. With left over strips of leather fashioned by yourself, you should be able to thread these through the O-ring in 3 or 4 places, which can be secured with glue or studs, but they may need sanding down.
  4. The waist is attached with an O-ring on each hip, secured by a strip of leather for a belt and then two strips lead up from the groin, around the lower part of the thigh, and loop around the back of the leather belt.
  5. There is no pattern or instruction manual to this homemade strap-on harness method – for more detail, check the reddit post.
Not too far off this etsy design.

Method 7 – Polypropylene strips + webbing buckles

Extracted from this method, this is a slightly easier design than the previous one, and you can swap out harness rings to allow for different sized toys in your harness.

More of a G-string type DIY strap-on harness.

What you’ll need

  • 12 ft Polypropylene webbing(should allow for 4 strap harness)
  • 1-1/4″ metal harness ring
  • Bunch of 3-bar nylon slides
  • Dual-release webbing buckle
  • 4 slides for 3 strap harness or 4 strap harness for men

How to make a DIY strap-on harness using Polypropylene strips & webbing buckles

  1. With 2 Polypropylene webbing strips, approximately 28″ in length (depending on body size), you can thread them each through the metal harness ring and fold the ends back on themselves and fasten them down using the 3 bar nylon slides.
Have some excess so you can adjust on the job.
  2. Heating the ends and clamping them down with plyers will stop them fraying.
  3. Then connect the buckle at the back which your webbing will feed through – for buckling up. But don’t fasten up just yet.
  4. You first need to attach the final strap which goes under your crotch. This will be a little longer, perhaps 34″, connected the same way as the previous two.
  5. Feed the loop of the third strap through the waist strap and you’re good to go!
